How to Clean Tinted Windows

The staff of Tinting King truly believes that investing in window tinting is a great decision for most spaces in your life. However, knowing how to care for your customized windows is just as important as making the initial call to schedule our services. By making certain to take specific precautions when caring for and cleaning your windows, your investment will last longer and be more effective, which makes for a happier customer. In order to help you with these important steps, we have created the following helpful list of tricks and tips. Some of our best advice includes:

  • Patiently Wait: In order for your window tinting product to fully set, it is important to wait at least 48 hours after installation to roll down the treated window. This time allows the film to completely adhere to the glass it is placed on, making certain that it will not peel away from the glass at the edges.
  • Accommodate Drying Time: For the first few days after application, many window tinting products can appear to be hazy, occasionally with little pockets of water between the product and the glass. Do not panic, this is a totally normal occurrence and will resolve itself in time. When we apply a film, we make certain to clean your glass thoroughly. However, this also means that after the product is installed, there may be microscopic bits of water still clinging to the glass. As the product is exposed to sun and heat, these droplets will evaporate by themselves. However, please remember that this process can take a little time. If it is cold and cloudy outcast, the water will not be exposed to as much heat, which could cause it to linger longer than you may like. Rest assured that it will eventually go away on its own.
  • Choose Your Cleaner Carefully: Not all glass cleaners are made equal. Certain products are wildly popular, but could be very damaging to your tint. For any window that has a window tinting product installed on it, make certain that you are using a non-ammonia based cleaner. Products with ammonia in them can discolor and fade the tint, often making it appear a strange purple color. Also be careful not to purchase a cleaner with any abrasive qualities. A streak-free, vinegar based cleaner is widely available commercially and should be ideal for cleaning any windows with tinting products on them.
  • Cloth Matters: The cloth you use when cleaning your windows is also important. Any fabric or product that is too coarse could wind up causing scratches in the tinting film and damaging the overall look of your customized window tinting. Paper towels, for example, are incredibly abrasive and easily cause microscopic scratches in the surface of glass that add up over time. Instead, try to find a good, clean microfiber cloth. The close knit will make sure that you are treating your windows with the care that they deserve.
  • Seeing Spots: Most modern cars have a layer of ceramic dots around the edges of their windows. These dots can sometimes cause problems with applying window tinting. After you are sure that your product has dried completely, you can usually press out the air and get the film down with little more than a finger.
  • Chips and Scratches: Be careful when exiting your car that your seatbelt does not snap up and hit the window, causing tiny little divots in the window tinting product. Also be aware that most windows have microscopic scratches on them no matter how careful you are. In cars, these are most often caused by the dirt and grime that has accumulated in the gasket mechanism of the window turner. In homes, these cracks can be caused by any number of things, including pets, cleaners, and other everyday activities. Applying a window film will usually make these flaws in your glass slightly more noticeable, because as light filters through both the glass and the film, it can highlight imperfections. Oftentimes, they are not significant enough to detract from the numerous benefits of window tinting, but it is worth noting that if you see scratches, it is most likely that they were present before your window tinting product installation.

Taking good care of an investment makes it last longer and look better to everyone who sees it. The staff here at Tinting King hopes that after reading this, you are a little more prepared for the changes in your windows in order to give them the longest life possible.
